Provenance: Auction Weinmüller, Munich, 28th November 1974, lot 1478; Private German collection Probably identical to the portraits of Mr and Mrs Roux in the Gustav Seeburg Collection as recorded by Thieme-Becker. Fertbauer began his career as a historical and genre painter. He later turned to portrait painting and made a name for himself in Viennese society during the Vormärz, the period leading up to the failed March 1848 revolution.
